Here is where I do most of
my
recording in my low budget basement recording studio. It is
truly amazing how computer technology now allows anyone to produce
decent demo songs in their own house. I use Sonar 5.0 Producer
recording software on my home built desktop computer. The
computer has an EMU 1820m sound card
which has helped a lot with the recording quality.
Recently I purchased a
portable
recorder called a Fostex MR8 MKII that I have been enjoying the heck
out of.
This little recorder is a complete recording studio with a small
footprint (11" wide, 8.5" deep and 2.5" tall) that can be transported
anywhere you want to record.
It records CD quality sound onto a Flash memory card.
Recently Heather and I attended a weaving retreat at a monastery in
Indiana
and I took this recorder with me. As Heather attended the
conference, I setup in our room and recorded a bunch of new music.
Since the Fostex can run on batteries so you can even record outdoors.
The recorder boots up in about 8 seconds so it allows me to do a quick
recording when the inspiration
strikes and doesn't get in the way of creativity.
More info
on the Fostex can be found
here.
Here is a picture of it. It fits easily in my old brief case along with
all of the necessary cords and cables.
A USB port allows the songs you record to be transferred to/from a PC.
I recommend this device highly.
