Before there were buttons, snaps, grommets, zippers and wire ties, there were tapes and cords. Everything was tied together.
Here are some tapes, bands and cords I have woven. The tapes were made on an inkle loom with a restricted length continuous warp. The cords were made on a Japanese style Maru Dai using a counter balance system of weighted cord and strands.

CIMG0017.JPG The white and red tapes were made with a pickup technique. The blue and gold series were derived from an Indonesian fabric. The red and black series were derived from Persian carpets.
CIMG0018.JPG Inspirations also come from abalone shells and Christmas motifs.

pickbag.jpg I revisited one of the first weavings I did to make these "Blooming Leaf" motif pockets so Craig would have something to put his guitar picks in. The center one uses hand spun silk for the weft. 4 shaft overshot on linen warp.
PineBags.JPG Another 4 shaft overshot miniture purse with kumihimo cord handles. This is one of my favorite motifs of "Pine Tree and Snowball". Linen and cotton.
twillpur.jpg Fancy twill purse on painted rayon warp with kumihimo cord & beaded closure.
